Azerbaijan will export 1.2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas annually through Turkey to Syria from the BP-operated Shah Deniz gas field in the Azeri Caspian Sea, a senior official at Azeri state energy company SOCAR told Reuters on Saturday.

Azerbaijan has started swap shipments of natural gas to Syria, with volumes being sent to Turkey and Turkish supplies being exported to neighbouring Syria for a 1.2 gigawatt hour gas-fired power facility in Aleppo.
