A police officer was killed during a shooting at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Atlanta campus at Emory University. Shots were first reported just before 5 p.m. local time near the Emory Point CVS, prompting Emory University to issue an emergency alert and an order to shelter in place and for the CDC campus to be locked down.

The attack, which unfolded near the neighboring Emory University campus, prompted a massive law enforcement response to one of the nation’s most prominent public health institutions, but no one else was reported to be injured.

A suspect has been killed after reports of an active shooter at Emory University in Atlanta, local police said. The incident involved a single gunman, the Atlanta Police Department said Friday night. One officer was injured while responding to the incident.
