Orsted, the Danish offshore-wind company that made an ill-timed push into the U.S., is having a summer to forget. Orsted shares fell 16% to an all-time low Monday after the company received an order from the U.

Denmark’s Orsted lost almost a fifth of its market value at one point as investors sold the offshore wind champion’s shares. They were reacting to orders by President Donald Trump to cease developing an almost-finished project in the northeast US.

The Trump administration on Friday ordered Denmark's Orsted to stop far-advanced construction on an offshore wind project near Rhode Island, in a move that threatens to exacerbate the company's financial troubles.

Construction on the Revolution Winds project was started last year and the project is now 80% complete, with 45 out of the 65 turbines installed, according to Orsted.

There is no evidence that wind farms cause cancer. As recently as last year, the federal government declared there was no known link between large-scale whale deaths and offshore wind. Turbine blades whipping through the air do kill birds, as do buildings with glass facades. As for the aesthetic merits of turbines, it’s a matter of debate.
