Three chemical producers have reached a historic settlement with the state of New Jersey over "forever chemicals" and other pollutants released into the environment.

Three chemical giants will pay New Jersey $875 million as part of the country’s biggest environmental settlement ever achieved by a single state.

DuPont and two other companies will pay New Jersey up to $2 billion to settle environmental claims stemming from PFAS, commonly referred to as “forever chemicals.”

Chemours , DuPont and Corteva have agreed to pay $875 million over 25 years to the State of New Jersey to settle environmental claims including pollution linked to PFAS, or "forever chemicals", the companies said on Monday.

In what officials say is the largest environmental settlement ever won by a state, chemical giants Chemours, DuPont and Corteva agreed on Monday to pay New Jersey $875 million over the next quarter-century to settle claims linked to pollution from so-called “forever chemicals.

Shawn LaTourette, the state Department of Environmental Protection commissioner, called it “the largest environmental settlement in our state’s history.”

New Jersey reached a $2 billion settlement with DuPont and several of its entities to resolve a lawsuit over “forever chemical” contamination at four industrial sites, which state officials called the largest environmental settlement ever achieved by a single state.
