Matt Turner is joining the New England Revolution on loan from Lyon as he looks to fight for the USMNT starting spot.

The familiar crest alone won't magically make Turner reclaim his U.S. role, but there is a reason why New England is the place to do it

The plan is currently to send Turner back to the Revolution, the club where he first became a star in MLS in 2016 and where he won Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021 and earned a transfer to Arsenal, on a loan before he can take on preseason with the club.

Turner, 31, is back in New England on a one-year loan from French club Olympique Lyonnais. Originally, Lyon appeared to be the answer to the question Turner has sought essentially since heading to Europe: Could he find a (stable) club that would make him the consistent starter?

Goalkeeper Matt Turner is officially back with the New England Revolution. The club announced Turner's return on Friday, with the keeper back in New England on loan from French Olympique Lyonnais.

This time, though, Turner isn't visiting, and he isn't back just to sit on the sidelines soaking in the love of a crowd. A World Cup spot is on the line, and, after being benched at this summer's Gold Cup, Turner knows the jeopardy he's in. If he wants to be the guy again next summer, as he was in 2022, he'll have to play and play well.
