Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of a Major League Baseball investigation into sports betting.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — MLB has placed Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase on a non-disciplinary leave of absence through Aug. 31 in connection with the same betting investigation involving teammate Luis Ortiz. Ortiz, who was originally put on a leave of absence through the All-Star break, had it extended through Aug. 31.

Clase is now the second Guardians’ pitcher, after Luis Ortiz, to be placed on leave due to a gambling investigation.

First-pitch bets could be on the chopping block as MLB investigates two Guardians pitchers. The state of Ohio is looking at banning “microbets,” which would include wagers on MLB’s first pitches, according to ESPN .
