The new spinoff, 'Stuart Fails to Save The Universe,' will follow Kevin Sussman's 'Big Bang' character, comic book store owner Stuart Bloom

HBO Max has given a series order to Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, an upcoming Big Bang Theory spinoff. Kevin Sussman will reprise his role as comic book store owner Stuart Bloom. The sci-fi comedy is said to feature "alternate-universe versions" of Big Bang Theory characters, so expect lots of cameos.

The Big Bang Theory spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is expanding its cast with more stars from the original show. News broke on Wednesday, August 13, that Ryan Cartwright, Josh Brener and Tommy Walker landed major recurring roles on the upcoming series.

Both actors previously popped up in “The Big Bang Theory,” which aired on CBS from 2007-2019. Cartwright played Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco) classmate in episode 8 of season 6, and Brener appeared in two episodes — episode 10 of season 5 and episode 16 of season 6 — as a comic book store employee named Dale.

Set in the future, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will centre on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (played by Kevin Sussman) who is "tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon", according to the official synopsis.

While the Big Bang Theory franchise continues to have a foothold on network television thanks to the Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage on CBS (which can also be watched with a Paramount+ subscription ),
