Royal Caribbean has named a new 'godmother' for its 'Star of the Seas' cruise ship. The announcement comes after Diana Ross unexpectedly pulled out of her appearance.

Just a few days after music icon Diana Ross backed out of her role as godmother to Royal Caribbean’s new Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, the cruise line announced a fitting replacement for the honor.

Royal Caribbean International announced on Friday that research astronaut Kellie Gerardi was selected as the godmother of the Star of the Seas. As the 90th woman in history to fly to space, Gerardi will christen the new Icon-class ship during a ceremony in Port Canaveral on Aug.

Diana Ross just pulled out of her appearance on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship she was named 'godmother' of. A representative for the singer, 81, said it was due to 'unforeseen circumstances.'

Kellie Gerardi, an astronaut and author, has been appointed as the Godmother of Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship, Star of the Seas, replacing Diana Ross.

"We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas," Royal Caribbean said, as it seeks replacement.

Vision of the Seas is the first ship to alter course due to Tropical Storm Erin and will now skip Bermuda this weekend.
