Harvey rushed seven times for 25 yards and brought in one of two targets for four yards in the Broncos ' 30-9 preseason win over the 49ers on Saturday night.

That included running back RJ Harvey. Broncos head coach Sean Payton has scoffed at the first iteration of the depth chart in years past, advising people not to read into it at all.

Harvey is listed fifth on Denver's initial preseason depth chart, even though he's been repping as the No. 2 RB in practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Multiple Denver beat writers have noted that coach Sean Payton almost always puts rookies at the bottom of the depth chart.

RJ Harvey, the running back the Broncos selected in the second round of this year’s draft, was listed as the final RB on the depth chart, trailing J.K. Dobbins, Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, Tyler Badie and Blake Watson.

Insert all the caveats about it being August and this being an "unofficial" depth chart and whatever else you want to say. Frankly, it's not how anyone is expecting the season to actually play out. It feels more a matter of procedure to put the rookie at the bottom to start things off.
