Minneapolis had the fifth worst air quality among 125 cities worldwide on Saturday morning, according to an international air quality monitoring platform.

The state of Minnesota is entering another in a long string of summer days marred by air quality alerts. Poor air quality will continue through Saturday with lingering wildfire smoke from Canada.

The smoke is expected to remain over the northern and central Plains of the United States for the next couple of days, according to meteorologists.

Minnesota’s air quality alert, which had been slated to expire Saturday evening, has been extended to noon on Monday. Winds are still expected to shift and start driving unhealthy air north and out of the state on Saturday.
