The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an alert warning of a recall of several Wegman's cheese products due to the risk of listeria contamination.

Eating the recalled cheese may cause a serious foodborne illness. The cheese may contain Listeria, bacteria that can cause serious infections. Cheese sold at Wegmans stores in nine states and Washington, D.C., has been recalled over potential bacteria contamination, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.

The grocery store asked customers not to consume four products containing the cheese sold in stores from July 1 to Aug. 12.
