The magnitude 3.0 earthquake that shook the East Coast came nearly a year and a half after a magnitude 4.8 quake shocked New York City and its surroundings

A minor, 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck in New Jersey on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 10:18 p.m. Eastern near Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., data from the agency shows.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. — A small earthquake in New Jersey rattled the New York City metropolitan area Saturday night. The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor had a magnitude of 3.0. It hit in the New Jersey suburb of Hasbrouck Heights, less than 8 miles west of Central Park, at a depth of about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers).
