Mayo Clinic is facing a lawsuit in U.S. District Court over allegedly threatening to fire a security guard for not wanting to get the COVID-19 vaccine due to his religious beliefs.

A lawsuit filed Thursday alleges the Mayo Clinic violated federal law when it refused a security guard's request to be exempt from getting the COVID-19 vaccine because of his religious beliefs.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on July 31 in the U.S. District Court of the District of Minnesota.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, July 30, alleges Mayo Clinic "discriminated against" a man "on the basis of religion when it denied" him an exemption to the organization's vaccine mandate.

In the suit, the EEOC claims Mayo Clinic denied a security guard's religious exemption request to the employer's COVID-19 vaccination policy then threatened termination for non-compliance.
