A fire burning near the town of Pagosa Springs is nearly 50% contained, and Archuleta County officials say evacuations due to the fire will be lifting Wednesday.

A fast-moving wildland fire dubbed the Oak Fire is prompting urgent evacuations in Archuleta County, Colorado. Authorities have ordered residents within one mile of 38 Spruce Circle in Aspen Springs to evacuate to Pagosa Springs High School.

Gov. Jared Polis has issued a verbal disaster declaration, freeing up state and federal resources for the 75-acre Oak Fire burning west of Pagosa Springs. Meanwhile, the Lee Fire has grown to one of the largest in state history.

One of the largest wildfires ever recorded in Colorado persisted Sunday and a new wildfire sparked in the southwestern corner of the state as gusty winds and low humidity fueled the flames.

A structure fire that got out of control near Pagosa Springs forced evacuations and prompted a disaster declaration from Gov. Jared Polis. The blaze, called the Oak fire, had burned 75 acres as of Monday morning,

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Aspen Springs, the Elk Park subdivision and homes off Ironwood Drive.
