A pilot was rescued after a U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed into ocean waters off the coast of Virginia on Wednesday morning, officials said.

A Navy pilot was rescued after a $67 million fighter jet plunged into ocean waters off the Virginia coast Wednesday morning — marking the sixth pricey plane the military has lost in less than a year.

The incident marks the sixth F-18 loss for the Navy in the last ten months, adding to a string of recent mishaps. A U.S. Navy pilot was successfully rescued on Wednesday morning after their F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Virginia.

Two pilots were killed in October 2024 when an EA-18G Growler, a Super Hornet variant, crashed near Mount Rainier in Washington. Another plane was shot down by friendly fire in the Red Sea in December. A Growler also crashed in San Diego Bay in February.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach-based Navy pilot was rescued from waters off the Virginia coast on Wednesday after ejecting from a fighter jet, according to the Navy. The pilot was flying a F/A-18E Super Hornet just before 10 a.m., said Lt. Jackie Parashar with Naval Air Force Atlantic.
