Traffic, crashes, arrests and trash collection remain steady as the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally crests over the midway point.

A sex sting operation operated by several law enforcement agencies during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has netted the arrests of four men. They were attempting to meet with a person they thought was a 14-year old girl for sex who turned out to be an undercover law officer.

She loves the chrome and she loves the noise,' Hazel Baumberger's niece said. The 109-year-old was at the first rally in 1938.

The DPS reported three people died in motorcycle crashes during the Sturgis rally in 2024 from Aug. 3 to Aug. 11. However, data from the state from late July to Aug. 12 of 2024 shows that 12 people died in motorcycle crashes across South Dakota.

Through the first seven days of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally there have been 425,875 vehicles counted entering Sturgis, according to South Dakota Department of Transportation data shared by the City of Sturgis.
