Premium subscribers can now use the new Spotify Mix button to create DJ-style transitions between their playlist songs.

If you’ve ever been stuck fumbling with crossfades at a house party, Spotify just fixed that awkward moment. The new Mix feature (in beta for select Premium users) lets you blend tracks automatically or fine-tune transitions manually, complete with waveform previews and beat-based editing.

Spotify has made a dramatic change to how playlists work. Users will now be able to change how songs transition, customising how they flow into each other, as well as altering the sound with changes such as volume or EQ. It means that playlists are no longer just a static lists of songs but can now be edited and mixed together akin to a DJ mix.

You've already got the perfect playlist, now Spotify lets you add and customize transitions between songs. On Tuesday, Spotify launched a beta version for Premium users to add song transitions. There's now a mix button in the playlist toolbar that lets you mix songs for a seamless transition.

The new options are designed to appeal to playlist experts and other music fans, who have collectively created nearly 9 billion playlists on Spotify's platform to date.

First reported by credible app reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, Spotify had been spotted working on an Apple Music-like song transition feature — one that would seamlessly blend the ending of one track with the beginning of another.
