Planned Parenthood will close its two clinics in Louisiana on Sept. 30 as the organization faces funding challenges under President Trump’s tax and spending package. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast President Melaney Linton said in a statement the Louisiana closures are a “direct result of relentless political assaults.

"This is not a decision we wanted to make," said Melaney Linton, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, adding that "political warfare" on the nonprofit by its opponents forced the closures.

According to Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, 200 other clinics might be in jeopardy of closing, but access to clinics doesn’t seem to be driving down the number of patients seeking abortions. Data shows the number of abortions in Louisiana and throughout the US is climbing.
