A tenant coalition is launching a campaign to bring a “rent stabilization” plan to Massachusetts voters next year, more than three decades after similar rules were outlawed statewide.

The push to bring back rent control in Massachusetts could be put directly to the voters next year in the form of a ballot question. Housing advocates said Wednesday that they plan to collect signatures this fall to put the measure on the ballot.
