Charges have been dropped against a man accused of attempting to kidnap a 2-year-old boy at a Walmart in Georgia. Mahendra Patel, of Kennesaw, was arrested and subsequently indicted by a grand jury on attempted kidnapping, battery and assault charges stemming from an incident reported at a Walmart in Acworth on March 18.

The Cobb County District Attorney entered a motion to drop the charges against Mahendra Patel on Wednesday, with the judge concurring.

Mahendra Patel, an Indian-origin man from Georgia, was cleared of attempted kidnapping charges after spending 45 days in jail earlier this year. The charges stemmed from an accusation by a woman who claimed Patel tried to kidnap her child at a Walmart.

The Cobb County man is charged with kidnapping, assault, and more, but says that the Walmart's security footage shows that he didn't commit any crime.

COBB COUNTY, GA — The Cobb County man accused of trying to kidnap a toddler from a Walmart in March walks free after appearing in Cobb County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon for a hearing. Charges have been dropped against 56-year-old Mahendra Patel who was accused by the mother of the child, Caroline Miller.

Mahendra Patel was arrested in March after a mother claimed he tried to take her 2-year-old child while she was shopping at the Walmart off Cobb Parkway.
