The "Late Show's" former bandleader had a lot to say about Colbert's future now that he's been canceled by CBS.

"I'm very grateful to him and I think where he goes next, his voice won't be silenced," Batiste told Rolling Stone AU/NZ in a recent interview. "The voice of free speech is challenge, but the soul of an individual cannot be cancelled. He's gonna find another megaphone, another outlet, I'm sure of it. I'm rooting for him."

Far from being silenced, Colbert has not shied away from criticizing the Trump administration since the show’s cancellation. Last week he launched a new “spoiled baby emperor” character based on the vice president called “Widdle Pwince Vance.”

Other than the week prior, the week of July 28 marked Colbert’s strongest ratings in over two years. In addition to its 3.016 million viewers, The Late Show amassed 304,000 in the key Adults 18-49 demo,
