Luis Gil waited several long months to return to the mound. The New York Yankees’ young right-hander last year became the fourth pitcher in franchise history to be voted AL Rookie of the Year.

Gil had a standout rookie season, going 15-7 in 29 starts with a 3.50 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 151.2 innings pitched. The 27-year-old pitcher struck out 171 batters and was set to make a major impact on the Yankees' rotation before getting injured.
