The long-awaited audit studying California’s return-to-office policies reported that California could reduce its office space footprint by 30%.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s unpopular order for state workers to return to the office four days per week is getting more pushback. The state auditor found it would save $225 million annually to maintain a predominantly remote workforce.

The audit recommended that state lawmakers require departments to identify positions that can successfully telework three days a week and offer such an option.
